Privacy Policy

Updated 24.03.2026

Harry Kemp ("we," "us," or "our") built the Kader Viewfinder app (the "App") as a commercial application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

1. Overview

Kader Viewfinder is a cinema director's viewfinder tool for Android.

2. Information We Collect

We do not access, collect, or store any personal data on our servers. All image processing occurs locally on your device. The App does not require or support user accounts, registration, email addresses, names, or any other personally identifiable information.

3. Device Permissions

The App requests the following device permissions:

  • Camera (android.permission.CAMERA): Required to provide the core viewfinder functionality. Camera data is processed entirely on your device in real-time. Camera frames are never transmitted, uploaded, or shared with any third party. When you capture an image, it is saved directly to your device's local photo gallery.

  • Storage / Media (android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE & READ_MEDIA_IMAGES): Required on devices running Android 9 (API 28) and below to save captured images to your device's photo gallery. On Android 10 and above, the App uses Android's Scoped Storage (MediaStore API) and does not require broad storage access.

4. Data Storage

All data generated and stored by the App remains exclusively on your device:

  • Captured Images: Saved to your device's Pictures gallery under the "Kader" folder, organized by project name. Images are stored in JPEG format.

  • EXIF Metadata: For your privacy, the App actively strips sensitive EXIF metadata from all saved images, including GPS/location coordinates, device make and model, device serial number, and camera owner information. The only EXIF data written to saved images is the application name ("Kader Viewfinder") and the date/time of capture.

  • User Preferences: Your settings — including sensor selections, focal lengths, aspect ratios, lens kit configurations, project names, and calibration offsets — are stored locally on your device using Android's DataStore (encrypted preferences). This data never leaves your device.

5. Third-Party Services and SDKs

The App uses the following open-source and platform libraries:

  • AndroidX CameraX — Camera hardware access and image capture (on-device only)

  • Jetpack Compose / Material 3 — User interface rendering (on-device only)

  • AndroidX DataStore — Local encrypted preferences storage (on-device only)

  • Dagger Hilt — Dependency injection framework (on-device only)

  • Coil — Local image loading and thumbnail display (on-device only)

  • Accompanist Permissions — Runtime permission handling (on-device only)

  • AndroidX ExifInterface — EXIF metadata reading and writing (on-device only)

  • Gson — Local JSON serialization for lens and sensor data (on-device only)

The App is distributed via the Google Play Store, which may collect basic telemetry and crash reports as governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

6. Image Sharing

The App provides an optional share feature that allows you to share captured images with other apps on your device using Android's standard share sheet (Intent chooser). When you choose to share an image, the image is passed directly to the app you select via Android's secure FileProvider mechanism. We do not intercept, log, or process shared images in any way. The privacy practices of the receiving app are governed by that app's own privacy policy.

7. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since the App collects no data whatsoever, it is compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

All data stored locally on your device (images and preferences) can be deleted at any time by:

  • Deleting individual images or albums within the App's gallery

  • Clearing the App's data through your device's Settings

  • Uninstalling the App

  • Delete locally stored images using your device’s file manager

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.

10. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA, and Global Privacy Laws)

While Kader Viewfinder is available globally, the App is designed with Privacy by Design at its core. Because we do not collect, store, or process any of your personal data on our servers, our ability to fulfill specific data requests is handled as follows:

Right of Access & Portability: We do not hold any of your data. All images and preferences are stored locally on your device. You can "export" your data by manually sharing or backing up the images from your device’s gallery.

Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): We cannot delete your data because we do not have access to it. You can exercise this right at any time by deleting the images from your gallery or uninstalling the App.

Right to Rectification: You can update your settings and lens configurations directly within the App interface at any time.

Right to Object/Restrict Processing: Since all processing happens locally on your hardware and is required for the App's core functionality (the viewfinder), your primary method of restricting processing is to manage the App's permissions in your Android System Settings.
